Opera is a cross-platform browser well done and always has a non-negligible number of users. To install Opera version 12.15 in Ubuntu 12.10 it possible to act in several ways:
- add the specific repository and install with apt
- download the .deb package from the manufacter
- use wine
Install Opera using specific repository
Use the specific repository, thanks to the automatic updates, allows you to have always available the latest version of the browser. This is a comfortable choice if you want to use Opera with a certain continuity, although not as the default browser.
Swith to root then download and install the key for the repository of Linux Opera.
sudo su - wget -O - http://deb.opera.com/archive.key | apt-key add -
Add to repository of Opera to the list of repositories apt in the directory /etc/apt/sources.list.d
echo "# Opera browser keep up-to-date final release" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera.list echo "deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free" >>/etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera.list
Update the list of packages, install Opera and exit root
apt-get update apt-get install opera exit
To check the version
# opera -version Opera 12.14 Build 1738 for Linux x86_64.
Install by using the .deb package
Point your browser to the specific page in the site of Opera to download the linux version
If you are using newer browsers should appear automatically selects the appropriate version of Opera. Otherwise select the first two dropbox respectively [Ubuntu] [debian package] and download the package.
Then via terminal you can install the binary file .deb using:
sudo dpkg -i nome-pacchetto.deb
Install Opera using wine
Install Opera using Wine has its own logic only if Wine is already installed and if you want to have multiple versions of the browser. This is useful for example to carry out tests on the rendering of web pages. Now in Wine thanks to webtricks is possible to install the version of Opera 11.
